Here is a link to a great story about using of social media as a tool to reach out and connect with customers. With all the hype today about SoMe and the changes in the advertising world it is refreshing to hear of a real world example of using social media to create an unexpected and positive customer experience.

Google has mailed 190,000 bar codes to local business that have setup Place Pages on Google. The concept of scaning in a bar code via a mobile device to get information, e-coupons or discover friends or contacts is begining to take shape as a complelling capability. Foursquare, Loopt, Gowalla and Google are on the scene and for sure geo based advertising is in the mix for all these applications.

AdvertisingAge has a list of seven advertising insights for the 2010 including the decline of banner ad effectiveness and the over analysis of search engine advertising conversion rates. It seem 2010 will bring in more changes to the advertising landscape to say the least with new mobile tools like Google Goggles and Red Laser that empower customers in new and exciting ways.
